Thank you for visiting our
web site! We hope that when you have learned a little about us here,
you will want to visit us in person. We are just beginning a new--and
very exciting--program year!
This past Sunday we launched
a new Sunday School season. Summer services had been a little quiet,
with so many of our children away with their families. Now the front
pews were suddenly filled with, well, exuberant kids. About
half of our children are under five years old, and still working on
the idea of sitting still! It probably didn't help that the
choir was back with some new members who were also working on where
and how to sit in their robes. In the spirit of celebration we added
drums to our opening hymns. And there was some kind of saxophone making
a joyful noise, too. No wonder the little ones were a bit boisterous--we
all were.
But as soon as the music
subsided, the little ones came forward for their own special time, and
they quieted down when I announced that I had MAIL for them. Each of
them was given an envelope with their name on it, with a letter telling
them how God thought they were special and was pleased with them. Then
they went off to their classes for a lesson from one of the Apostle
Paul's letters.
In our worship, we considered
the same lesson: that the purpose of Paul's letters was to communicate
God's love for us, and his plan for us to have lives that are peaceful,
joyous, and free. Every week, every day, this is part of what we are
about here at Piermont Reformed Church, as we find new ways to cooperate
with God as he makes us his new creation by his grace.
