One of the joys of the holiday season is reuniting with friends and family. Sometimes this means having them come and stay with us for a while....get the guest rooms ready! One of the trials of the holiday can be....well, what I just said. To be truthful, one of the good things about these visits is, they do end. Most of us say about our guests, "It's good to see them....and it's good to see them go!" Christmas marks the beginning of a special visit: the coming of the Word to dwell with us in human flesh. The birth of Jesus in a stable---there was no guest room to be had---lets us know that God's promise is now fulfilled. It is a promise not just that God will live with us, but within us. Christ's incarnation points toward the Spirit finding its home in our hearts. Sometimes I think that I like my privacy so much, and care for overlong visits so little, that the idea of God being with me all the time sounds like a bad idea. I think it might mean losing my freedom, like when company comes and you can't pad around the house in your skivvies. Though I am certain he will not stay if we ask him to go, Christ is not the kind of guest we are anxious to get rid of. When we connect with God through him, we find our eyes opened to a new freedom, our hearts tuned to new beauty and beating with a new excitement. Join with us in welcoming Jesus Christ into our homes and hearts this Christmas. You will be GLAD you did.
P.S. to all our visitors to this page: Please do sign our guestbook. It is important to us to know that you have been here and enjoy reading this message. You will not receive unsolicited e-mail, nor will your e-mail address be given to anyone else. Thank you, and Merry Christmas! --All of us at PRC
