What things do you do every day?
Each morning, after the frantic rush entailed in sending just one first-grader off to school, or before anyone else is awake on weekends, I walk to our neighborhood deli to pick up the newspaper and some coffee. The walk affords me ten minutes of peace, time to savor fresh air, spring flowers or fall foliage, snow or summer sun. If I miss this walk, I feel like my day is adrift without an anchor. Something seems odd about all the hours that follow.
The things we do "religiously" reveal much about us. What are they for you? Do you jog a half-hour each day? Is there a TV show you never miss? Do you drink a beer (or three) every day? Are you lost without your morning Cocoa Puffs? What are the little rituals that identify you?
In our church we ask all our members to PRAY for each other daily. We further suggest that before we ask God for health or help with other problems, that we ask first for the spiritual growth of all. Our basic request is that each and every one of us may grow in our love for God. Experience tells us that if we reach out and receive that, all other blessings will follow. I believe our church is alive and growing because these prayers are being answered by God.
If your visit to this site is your first contact with our church, then we offer this prayer for you as well. If you are a member checking in here, then please join me in praying that our "visitors" will be blessed with a sense of God's presence with them, and of the gifts of peace and joy in life which God wants them to have. May we all find these gifts, as Christ touches our lives today and tomorrow. Every day!
